In this paper the authors introduce the class of CUSC rings, defined as rings in which every clean element is uniquely strongly clean, and the class of UUSC rings, i.e., rings where every unit is uniquely strongly clean. The first class serves as a common generalization of two previously studied classes: the USC rings, introduced by \textit{J. Chen} et al. [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 213, No. 2, 215--223 (2009; Zbl 1162.16019)], where every element is uniquely strongly clean; and the CUC rings, defined by \textit{G. Călugăreanu} and \textit{Y. Zhou} [Mediterr. J. Math. 20, No. 1, Paper No. 15, 12 p. (2023; Zbl 1515.16038)], where clean elements are uniquely clean.\N\NIn the second section of the paper we can find some interesting examples and properties on CUSC and UUSC rings and their extensions (see for example Propositions 2.9 and 2.11). In Theorem 3.11 the authors prove that a ring is USC if and only if it is both CUSC and potent. As a consequence of this theorem they obtain that, if \(R\) is a CUSC ring, the following assertions are equivalent: \(R\) is strongly clean; \(R\) is clean; \(R\) is exchange; \(R\) is potent; \(R\) is USC. Finally, the last results of the paper include relevant properties about the class of CUSC rings in matrix rings and group rings.
