Let \(S\) be a closed, connected and oriented surface of genus at least \(2\). Sending an orientation-preserving automorphism of \(S\) to its induced map on first homology defines a homomorphism from the mapping class group of \(S\) to the symplectic group on \(H_1(S)\). Fixing a finite group \(G\) of orientation-preserving automorphisms, the author provides sufficient criteria when\N\begin{itemize}\N\item the action on \(H_1(S)\) of the centraliser \(\mathrm{Diff}^+(S)^G\) of \(G\) in the group of orientation-preserving automorphisms has no non-trivial finite orbits;\N\item the image of the induced map on centralisers \(\mathrm{Diff}^+(S)^G \to \mathrm{Sp}(H_1(S))^G\) has finite index.\N\end{itemize}\NThe conditions are formulated in terms of the projection to the quotient orbifold under the \(G\)-action on \(S\), and are automatically satisfied after stabilisation of the quotient orbifold with a closed surface of genus \(1\) or \(2\), respectively.
