Let \((M, g_{0})\) be a closed oriented hyperbolic manifold of dimension at least 3. By the volume entropy inequality, for any Riemannian metric \(g\) on \(M\) with the same volume as \(g_{0}\), its volume entropy (below \(B_{g}(o,R)\) denotes the geodesic \(R\)-ball centered at some point \(o\) in the universal cover of \((M,g)\)):\N\[\Nh(g):=\lim_{R\to +\infty} \frac{\log\mathrm{Vol}(B_{g}(o,R))}{R}\N\]\Nsatisfies \(h(g) \geq n-1\) with equality only when \(g\) is isometric to \(g_0\). The authors show that the hyperbolic metric \(g_{0}\) is stable in the following sense: if \(g_{i}\) is a sequence of Riemannian metrics on \(M\) with \(\mathrm{Vol}(M, g_i)=\mathrm{Vol}(M, g_0)\) such that \(h(g_i) \to n - 1\), then there is a sequence of smooth subsets \(Z_i\subset M\) such that \(\lim\limits_{i\to +\infty} \mathrm{Vol}(Z_i, g_i) = \lim\limits_{i\to +\infty}\mathrm{Area}(\partial Z_i, g_i) = 0\) and \((M \setminus Z_i, g_i)\) converges to \((M, g_0)\) in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology.
