Let \(n\) be a natural number, and let \(p_n\) be the \(n\)-th prime number starting from \(p_1=2\). The equality \(d_n=p_{n+1}-p_n\) defines the \(n\)-th gap between consecutive primes. The author of this paper considers similarities between various characteristics describing the distribution of gaps \(\{d_1,d_2,\ldots,d_n\}\) and the corresponding characteristics of collection \(\{X_1,X_2,\ldots,X_n\}\), where \(X_1,X_2,\ldots,X_n\) are independent identically distributed exponential random variables with appropriately chosen parameter.
