In this paper, the author investigates a class of linear discrete matrix equations that include a single fixed delay, specifically those where the forward difference of an unknown matrix sequence depends linearly on its delayed values, both from the left and right, plus a given non-homogeneous term. To analyze such systems, the author introduces a special matrix function that generalises the matrix exponential to delayed discrete settings. Under certain commutativity conditions among matrices, the author derives explicit solutions for both homogeneous and nonhomogeneous cases of the problem. The derived formulas express the solution entirely in terms of the initial data and given matrices. The paper also shows how these results relate to earlier studies involving discrete systems with multiple delays and raises open questions about possible generalisations, including removing commutativity assumptions or extending the method to more complex systems relevant in control theory.
