Let \(\mathcal{SUB}(G)\) denote the space of closed subgroups of a topological group \(G\) endowed with the Chabauty topology. Furthermore denote the subspaces of compact and compact open subgroups by \(\mathcal{SUB}_{\mbox{c}}(G)\) and \(\mathcal{SUB}_{\mbox{co}}(G)\), respectively. If \(\mathcal{F}\) is a subset of \(\mathcal{SUB}(G)\) then the elements in the closure \(\overline{\mathcal{F}}\) are called \textit{Chabauty limits} of \(\mathcal{F}\). A topological group is said to be \textit{compactly ruled} if it is the direct union of compact open subgroups.\N\NThe author tackles two questions arising from a paper by \textit{H. Hamrouni} and \textit{Z. Jlali} [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 131, No. 1, Paper No. 6, 10 p. (2021; Zbl 1490.22006)]. The main results are the following:\N\NTheorem A. Let \(G\) be a locally compact group. Then the following are equivalent:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[(1)] \(G\) is a Chabauty limit of \(\mathcal{SUB}_{\mbox{c}}(G)\).\N\item[(2)] \(G\) is a Chabauty limit of \(\mathcal{SUB}_{\mbox{co}}(G)\).\N\item[(3)] \(G\) is compactly ruled.\N\end{itemize}\N\NTheorem B. Let \(G\) be a locally compact group and \(E\) the trivial subgroup of \(G\). Then the following are equivalent:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[(1)] \(G\) is compactly ruled and totally disconnected.\N\item[(2)] \(E\) and \(G\) are Chabauty limits of \(\mathcal{SUB}_{\mbox{co}}(G)\).\N\end{itemize}
