This paper obtains results on the perturbation of frames using representation theory, and is organized as follows: Section 1 is an introduction that provides motivation, definitions, notation, basic results, and a quite thorough literature review. Section 2 briefly reviews the Weyl-Heisenberg group and its associated Gabor frames, the extended affine group, and its associated wavelet frames. The main results are contained in Section 3: Theorem 3.1 shows that frames associated with the Weyl-Heisenberg group are stable under small perturbations with respect to the translation parameter. The perturbation of frames for the Weyl-Heisenberg group with respect to the modulation parameter is given in Theorem 3.4. An equivalent criterion in terms of frame conditions between a given sequence and its perturbed sequence, considering both translation and modulation parameters, is presented in Theorem 3.6. Theorem 3.8 gives sufficient conditions for perturbation with respect to window functions. In Sect. 3.2, the authors first provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of wavelet frames associated with the extended affine group (Theorem 3.10), and in Theorem 3.13 give a perturbation result in terms of window functions for wavelet frames associated with the extended affine group. Finally, in Sect. 3.3, Theorem 3.16, and Theorem 3.17 give an interplay between frames from the Weyl-Heisenberg and extended affine groups. Several examples are also given to illustrate the results. Finally, a discussion of the results and intended future directions of research is contained in Section 4.
