The paper is focused on the so-called \(x-y\) swap relation as applied to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation. One of the main results in the paper states that the swap relation preserves the integrability of the KP equation as formulated in terms of a set of symmetric meromorphic \(n\)-differentials defined on the spectral curve corresponding to the KP equation itself. Another important result shows that Baker-Akhiezer kernels are transformed under the \(x-y\) swap relation by using certain Gauss integrals. These results find applications in topological recursion. For example, the authors prove that a certain type of topological recursion leads to Mironov-Morozov-Semenoff matrix integrals. Moreover, it turns out that if a topological recursion preserves the KP integrability property of the afore-mentioned set of \(n\)-differentials, then the corresponding spectral curve must be rational.\N\NThe paper will be of interest mainly to experts in integrable systems.
