Piecewise contractions (Q6999434)

Hyperbolic dynamical systems with discontinuities arise in many settings, and our understanding of them diminishes as the dimension increases. Here the case of maps defined on a compact subset of \(\mathbb{R}^d\) that are piecewise injective and contracting are studied without the assumption that they are globally injective. The results give information about the global dynamical properties of generic maps of this type with respect to a suitable topology. Specifically, it is shown that a generic map has attractor and the set of discontinuities disjoint and hence the attractor consists of periodic orbits, and is topologically stable.
