If \(A\) is an artinian graded algebra over a field \(\mathbb K\) (often of characteristic zero) and \(L\) is a general linear form, the Lefschetz properties refer to the study of the ranks of the induced homomorphisms \(\times L^j : [A]_i \rightarrow [A]_{i+j}\), and in particular whether these maps have maximal rank or not. We refer to the Strong Lefschetz property (SLP) if all such maps have maximal rank, and to the Weak Lefschetz property (WLP) when it holds at least for \(j=1\). This problem has been studied in a great number of settings, but one of these is the setting of algebraic combinatorics. If \(\Delta\) is a simplicial complex, one can look at the Stanley-Reisner ideal \(\mathcal N(\Delta)\) associated to it. To form an artinian algebra, many authors have considered the quotient\N\[\NA(\Delta) = \frac{\mathbb K[x_1,\dots,x_n]}{\mathcal N(\Delta) + (x_1^2, \dots,x_n^2)}\N\]\NFor such algebras, in prior work the author has studied connections between the Lefschetz properties and multidegrees of certain monomial rational maps. In this paper he continues this study by bringing in the theory of Rees algebras of squarefree monomial ideals, as well as the study of facet ideals. The main results are very nice but a bit technical, and we only summarize them by saying that they deal with linear type and SLP, symbolic powers and SLP, level monomial algebras failing SLP, symbolic defect and \(f\)-vectors, and positivity of mixed multiplicities of skeleta.
