Let \(f_{d,c}(z)=z^d+c\). It is shown that if \(|c|\not=1\), then the Julia sets \(J(f_{d,c})\) of \(f_{d,c}\) converge to the unit circle as \(d\rightarrow \infty\) with respect to the Hausdorff metric. Moreover, the set of all \(c=e^{2\pi i \theta}\) with \(\theta\) rational such that \(J(f_{d,c})\) tends to the unit circle is completely characterized. In particular, it follows that for certain \(c\) the Julia sets \(J(f_{d,c})\) do not converge to the unit circle as \(d\rightarrow \infty\), and in fact that \(J(f_{d,c})\) does not converge at all for certain values of \(c\).
