In this paper it is developed a variational approach in order to estimate the magnetic resonance coil sensitivity from its corresponding non-uniform illumination of magnetic resonance images. The residual is derived from the rough sensitivity estimate given by the quotient of images obtained with and without uniform illumination. Magnetic resonance images of phantoms are used to demonstrate the importance of accurate sensitivity estimation for SENSE image reconstruction.
