The authors discuss the existence of positive solutions of the following problem: \[ -(\varphi_p(x'))'(t)=\lambda (x^m(t)-x^n(t)),\;\;t\in (0,1),\quad x(0)=x(1)=0, \] where \(\varphi_p\) denotes the \(p\)-Laplacian operator, \(p>1\). Under suitable assumptions on \(m\), \(n\), \(p\) and \(\lambda\), they prove exact multiplicity results and some properties of the solutions. For example, it is proved that if \(m>n\geq p-1\), then the considered BVP has a unique positive solution for any \(\lambda>0\).
