The author continues his study of \(C^*\)-algebras associated with \(C^*\)-correspondences, see [\textit{T. Katsura}, Am. Math. Soc. Contemp. Math. 335, 173--182 (2003; Zbl 1049.46038)] whose structure is similar to one of the Cuntz--Pimsner algebras [cf.~\textit{M. V. Pimsner}, Am. Math. Soc. Fields Inst. Commun. 12, 189--212 (1997; Zbl 0871.46028)]. A \(C^*\)-correspondence is a Hilbert module \(X\) over a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) equipped with a left action \(\varphi\) of \(A\) via adjointable operators. The author defines \({\mathcal O}_X\) as the \(C^*\)-algebra \(C^*(\pi_X,t_X)\) generated by the images \(\pi_X\) and \(t_X\) where \((\pi_X,t_X)\) denotes the universal covariant representation. He proves the gauge-invariant uniqueness theorem for \({\mathcal O}_X\) and discusses conditions on \(X\) for the \(C^*\)-algebra \({\mathcal O}_X\) to be nuclear or exact. Following the arguments of \textit{M. V. Pimsner} [loc. cit.], a \(6\)-term exact sequence of \(K\)-groups is given which may be useful to compute the \(K\)-groups \(K_0({\mathcal O}_X)\) and \(K_1({\mathcal O}_X)\). The paper ends with appendices on nuclear maps and linking algebras.
