The author presents a generalization and a new proof of a recent result of Vilmos Totik concerning the smoothness properties of the equilibrium measure for compact subsets of the real line, and the Green's function of the complement of these subsets. Although, Totik's Theorem is too complicated to state in this review, it should be noted that it has several significant applications pertaining to Phragmén-Lindelöf-type theorems, Markov and Bernstein-type, Remez and Schur-type polynomial inequalities. The author's proof is based on the application of conformal invariants such as extremal length and module of a family of curves.
