In 1975 \textit{S. M. Voronin} [Math. USSR, Izv. 9, 443--453 (1975); translation from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 39, 475--486 (1975; Zbl 0315.10037)] discovered a universality property of the Riemann zeta-function \(\zeta(s)\), which can be stated in the following modern version: let \(K\) be a compact subset of \(\{s\in\mathbb{C}:1/2<\text{Re}\, s<1\}\) with connected complement and let \(f(s)\) be a non-vanishing continuous function on K which is analytic in the interior of \(K\). Then, for every \(\varepsilon>0\), we have \[ \liminf_{T\to\infty}\frac{1}{T}\mu\left\{\tau\in[0,T]: \max_{s\in K}|\zeta(s+i\tau)-f(s)|<\varepsilon\right\}>0, \] where \(\mu(\cdot)\) denotes the Lebesgue measure. It is well known that a similar property can be shown for many other functions important in view of number theory. For instance, one can prove universality of the derivative and the logarithm of \(\zeta(s)\). In the reviewed paper the author investigated whether a general type function \(F(\zeta(s))\) is universal in the above sense. The paper contains a series of results giving certain sufficient conditions on \(F\). As a consequence the author proves universality of \(e^{\zeta(s)}\) and \(c_1\zeta'(s)+c_2\zeta''(s)\) with \(c_1,c_2\in\mathbb{C}\), \(c_1c_2\neq 0\).
