The following equation with piecewise constant argument is considered \[ \begin{cases} u_{t}(x,t)=a^{2}u_{xx}(x,t)+bu_{xx}(x,[t]),\quad t>0,\\ u(0,t)=u(1,t)=0,\\ u(x,0)=v(x), \end{cases} \] where \(a,b\in\mathbb{R},u:\Omega=[0,1]\times [0,\infty)\rightarrow\mathbb{R},\quad v:[0,1]\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\) and \([\cdot]\) denotes the greatest integer function. The approximate solution \(u_{h}(t)=u_{h}(\cdot,t)\) of the above problem is given by the solution of: \[ (u_{h,t}(x,t),\chi)+a^{2}(\nabla u_{h}(x,t),\nabla\chi)+b(\nabla u_{h}(x,[t]),\nabla\chi)=0, \quad \forall\chi\in S_{h},t<0, u_{h}(0)=v_{h}, \] where \(v_{h}\) is some approximation of \(v\) in \(S_{h}\) and \(S_{h}:=\{u_{h}\in C(\Omega):u_{h}\mid_{I_{n}}\in P^{(r-1)}(I_{n}),1\leq n \leq N\};\) \(I_{n}:=[x_{n-1},x_{n}]\) \(I_{h}:= \{x_{n}:0=x_{0}<x_{1}<\dots<x_{N}=1\},\) denotes the space of all polynomials of degree not exceeding \(r-1\). A theorem gives conditions under which \(\|u_{h}(t)-u(t)\|\) converges to \(0\), then after defining the asymptotic stability of \(u_{h}(x,t)\) the authors present a theorem with the conditions under which the zero solution of the approximate equation is asymptotically stable.
