A symmetric space \(M=G/K\) is said to be symplectic if there is a \(G\)-invariant symplectic differential form on \(M\). If \({\mathfrak g}={\mathfrak k}\oplus {\mathfrak p}\) is the decomposition of \({\mathfrak g}=\text{Lie}(G)\) into \(\pm 1\) eigenspaces of \(d\sigma \) (\(\sigma \) being the involution of \(G\) associated to the symmetric pair \((G,K)\)), this differential form is determined by an \(\text{ad}_{\mathfrak k}\)-invariant 2-form \(\omega \) on \(\mathfrak p\). An extrinsic symplectic immersion \(i:M\to (V,\Omega )\) into a symplectic vector space corresponds to a Lie algebra morphism \[ di: \to \mathfrak{asp}(V,\Omega )=\mathfrak{sp}(V,\Omega )\oplus V, \quad X\mapsto \Lambda (X)+v(X), \] such that \(\text{ker}(v)={\mathfrak k}\), and \(v:{\mathfrak p}\to V_1\) is an isomorphism for a symplectic orthogonal splitting \(V=V_1\oplus V_2\). Furthermore, \(\Lambda ({\mathfrak k})\subset \tilde {\mathfrak k}\) and \(\Lambda ({\mathfrak p})\subset \tilde {\mathfrak p}\) for the associated decomposition \(\mathfrak{sp}(V,\Omega )=\tilde {\mathfrak k}\oplus \tilde {\mathfrak p}\). Here is the main result of the paper: Assume that there is an extrinsic symplectic immersion of the symmetric space \(M\) into the symplectic vector space \((V,\Omega )\). Then the transvection group of \(M\) is solvable. (The transvection group is the group generated by the geodesic reflections.)
