In inversive geometry, an \textit{inversive distance circle packing} is associated to a given oriented and edge-labeled triangulation \(K\) of a surface \(S\) if the following holds: For every vertex \(u \in K\), there corresponds a circle \(C_u \subseteq S\) such that the inversive distance between the circles \(C_u\) and \(C_v\) realizes the label of the edge \(uv \in K\), and the orientation of a face \(uvw \in K\) is the same as the orientation of the corresponding circles on \(S\). In [Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 805, 97 p. (2004; Zbl 1080.52511)], \textit{P. L. Bowers} and \textit{K. Stephenson} asked whether any two inversive distance circle packings, associated to the same edge-labeled triangulation \(K\), are inversively equivalent. While \textit{F. Luo} [Geom. Topol. 15, No. 4, 2299--2319 (2011; Zbl 1242.52027)] gave an affirmative answer for surfaces of positive genus, \textit{J. Ma} and \textit{J.-M. Schlenker} [Discrete Comput. Geom. 47, No. 3, 610--617 (2012; Zbl 1268.52016)] provided a counterexample for \(S\) being the sphere. The authors of the paper at hand use only inversive geometry, in particular so-called Möbius flows, to construct a whole family of such counterexamples.
