This paper considers the Poisson equation in a domain with a small inclusion with the goal to find its approximate solution as the size of the inclusion decreases towards zero, i.e., the far field solution. Standard numerical approaches suffer from the locking effect. Their performance deteriorates as the size of the inclusion tends to zero. This paper presents a simple numerical procedure based on asymptotic expansions with respect to the inclusion size and standard Galerkin method such as finite elements. Stability, consistency, and error estimates are proved. The paper is concluded by numerical experiments illustrating the efficiency of the proposed method.
