Given a monoid \(M\) and an endomorphism \(\theta\) of \(M\), the set \(\mathbb N_0\times M\times\mathbb N_0\) with the multiplication defined by \[ (m,a,n)(p,b,q)=(m-n+t,(a\theta^t)(b\theta^t),p-q+t), \] where \(t=\max(n,p)\) and \(\theta^0\) denotes the identity map on \(M\), becomes a monoid, denoted by \(BR(M,\theta)\) and called the Bruck-Reilly extension of \(M\) determined by \(\theta\). Following a result of \textit{I. M. Araújo} and \textit{N. Ruškuc} [J. Algebra 242, No. 1, 20-30 (2001; Zbl 0987.20032)] that states:{\parindent=8mm\begin{itemize}\item[{\((\mathcal P)\)}] ``If a Bruck-Reilly extension \(BR(G,\theta)\) of a group \(G\) is finitely presented then \(G\) is finitely generated'' \end{itemize}} it is natural to ask if the same is true for an arbitrary monoid \(M\). In [\textit{C. A. Carvalho}, Southeast Asian Bull. Math. 29, No. 3, 423-431 (2005; Zbl 1085.20036)], [\textit{C. A. Carvalho} and \textit{N. Ruškuc}, Commun. Algebra 34, No. 9, 3301-3313 (2006; Zbl 1110.20044)] and [\textit{C. A. Carvalho} and \textit{N. Ruškuc}, J. Algebra Appl. 6, No. 5, 801-814 (2007; Zbl 1153.20044)] affirmative answers were given for various kinds of monoids such as rectangular bands with an adjoint identity, free monoids, semilattice monoids and Clifford monoids. Using a presentation of \(BR(M_i,\theta)\) given by \textit{J. M. Howie} and \textit{N. Ruškuc} [Commun. Algebra 22, No. 15, 6209-6224 (1994; Zbl 0823.20061)] and a necessary and sufficient condition for \(BR(M,\theta)\) to be finitely generated [\textit{I. M. Araújo}, Presentations for semigroup constructions and related computational methods. Ph.D. Thesis, University of St. Andrews (2000)], the authors show that if \(M_1\) and \(M_2\) are monoids satisfying \((\mathcal P)\), \(M=M_1\times M_2\) and \(\theta\) is an automorphism of \(M\) that restricts to endomorphisms in \(M_1\) and in \(M_2\), then \(M\) satisfies \((\mathcal P)\) (Theor. 3.1). This result immediately yields new examples of monoids satisfying \((\mathcal P)\), such is the case of \(M=Y\times G\) where \(G\) is a group and \(Y\) is a semilattice monoid (as any endomorphism \(\theta\) in \(M\) restricts to endomorphisms in \(G\) and in \(Y\)). Without restricting \(\theta\), it is also proved that \(Y\times RZ\), where \(RZ\) is a right zero semigroup with adjoint identity if necessary, satisfies \((\mathcal P)\) (Theor. 3.7). While direct products of semilattice monoids and groups are special Clifford monoids, direct products of groups and rectangular bands with an added identity are special completely \((0)\)-simple semigroups. (Recall that completely \(0\)-simple monoids are just groups with an adjoint zero.) So, more general, the authors ask what happens for completely \((0)\)-simple semigroups with an adjoint identity. A positive answer to this question concludes the paper (Theor. 4.1). In [\textit{C. Carvalho}, ``Finite presentability of Bruck-Reilly extensions'', \url{http://caul.cii.fc.ul.pt/~ccarvalho/ekaterinburg.pdf}], one may find a review of the results on this topic.
