The paper deals with a family of vertex operators, \(W_{\sqrt{p}Q}\), attached to dilated root lattices \(\sqrt{p}Q\), \(p \geq 1\), defined via kernels of screening operators. If \(p=1\), these are precisely well-known ADE type lattice vertex algebras introduced in the seminal works of Frenkel-Kac and Segal. For \(p>1\), \(W_{\sqrt{p}Q}\) behave quite differently and do not produce a rational CFT \(\leadsto\) Log CFT. While the idea of intersections of screening operators had been around for quite a while, \textit{B. L. Feigin} and \textit{I. Yu. Tipunin} [``Logarithmic CFTs connected with simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1002.5047}] developed a new geometric method for constructing \(W_{\sqrt{p}Q}\) with an eye on the Kazhdan-Lusztig correspondence between \(W_{\sqrt{p}Q}-\mathrm{Mod}\) and categories of representations for the small/restricted quantum groups (at roots of unity). The construction in [\textit{B. L. Feigin} and \textit{I. Yu. Tipunin}, ``Logarithmic CFTs connected with simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1002.5047}] is complicated by several statements that are only provided as proof sketches. These remained as conjectures until the subsequent work of the second author [Sel. Math., New Ser. 27, No. 5, Paper No. 86, 43 p. (2021; Zbl 1473.81166)]. More recently, the characters of certain \(W_{\sqrt{p}Q}\) algebras (more precisely their subalgebras) have also appeared in a somewhat unrelated framework in work of Gukov et al. on \(\widehat{Z}\)-invariants of plumbed \(3\)-manifolds.\N\NIn this paper, the authors develop a more conceptual framework to study vertex algebras of Feigin-Tipunin type. The most important contributions are:\N\N(1) Formalization of results [\textit{B. L. Feigin} and \textit{I. Yu. Tipunin}, ``Logarithmic CFTs connected with simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1002.5047}; Sel. Math., New Ser. 27, No. 5, Paper No. 86, 43 p. (2021; Zbl 1473.81166); Int. Math. Res. Not. 2023, No. 8, 7169--7199 (2023; Zbl 1529.17041)] in terms of what the authors call a ``shift system''. It is introduced in Part~I as a new tool to generalize results of Feigin and Tipunin.\N\N(2) Extension of [\textit{B. L. Feigin} and \textit{I. Yu. Tipunin}, ``Logarithmic CFTs connected with simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1002.5047}; Sel. Math., New Ser. 27, No. 5, Paper No. 86, 43 p. (2021; Zbl 1473.81166); Int. Math. Res. Not. 2023, No. 8, 7169--7199 (2023; Zbl 1529.17041)] to all simple Lie algebras (not only simply laced).\N\N(3) Extension of [\textit{B. L. Feigin} and \textit{I. Yu. Tipunin}, ``Logarithmic CFTs connected with simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1002.5047}; Sel. Math., New Ser. 27, No. 5, Paper No. 86, 43 p. (2021; Zbl 1473.81166); Int. Math. Res. Not. 2023, No. 8, 7169--7199 (2023; Zbl 1529.17041)] to simple Lie superalgebras/vertex superalgebras and specifically \(\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{osp}(1|2r)\).
