The class of semi-explicit differential-algebraic equations with polynomial right-hand side is considered. The differentiation index is analyzed by means of the ranks of certain Jacobian associated submatrices. It was shown that these results can be also used to estimate the regularity of the Hilbert-Kolchin function from above.
