Integral transforms with a hypergeometric function as kernel have been studied extensively, already starting in 1910 with \textit{H. Weyl} [Gött. Nachr. 1910, 442--467 (1910; JFM 41.0344.01)]. This study of the Jacobi-transform led to its inverse from spectral analysis of the hypergeometric differential operator \(D\) -- unbounded, self-adjoint -- on a weighted \(L^2\)-space of functions on the non-negative half-line. Recently, \textit{Yu. A. Neretin} [Funct. Anal. Appl. 39, No.~2, 106--119 (2005); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 39, No.~2, 31--46 (2005; Zbl 1115.33008)] studied the hypergeometric differential operator as a self-adjoint operator on a weighted \(L^2\)-space of functions on \(\mathbb R\), leading to an integral transform with two different vector-valued Jacobi functions as kernel. The author derives a \(q\)-analogue of the second order \(q\)-difference oprator \(L\), using the big \(q\)-Jacobi function (a basic hypergeometric function of type \({}_3\varphi_2\)). Results cover the Casorati determinant (difference analogue of the Wronskian), special asymptotic eigenvalue solutions, the Green kernel, the spectral decomposition of \(L\), the vector-valued big \(q\)-Jacobi transform and its inverse.
