The authors introduce the notion of a local generalized guiding function for a differential inclusion in the Euclidean space. Such functions behave similarly to the ordinary guiding functions of differential equations, but instead of being smooth they are only regular in the sense of nonsmooth analysis, and the `guiding' property is satisfied locally on a prescribed set. The authors show that under these relaxed assumptions the guided differential inclusion has periodic solutions in this prescribed set provided the generalized gradient of the guiding function is topologically essential in the sense that its topological degree with respect to the prescribed set is nontrivial. In addition the concept of an integral guiding function is studied and a similar result on the existence of periodic orbits is established.
