Let \((Y, \, h)\) be a closed Riemannian manifold of dimension \(d-1 \geq 2\), and \(M\) be the corresponding metric cone given as \(M = (0,\infty)_r\times Y\) whose metric is \(\,dr^2 +r^2h\). In this paper, the authors study the \(L^p\)-boundedness of the Riesz transform of homogeneous Schrödinger operators on \(M\). Let \(V_0\) be a smooth function on \(Y\) such that \(\Delta_Y+V_0+ (d - 2)^2/4\) is a strictly positive operator on \(L^2(Y)\) with lowest eigenvalue \(\mu_0\) and second lowest eigenvalue \(\mu_1\) with \(\mu_0,\, \mu_1>0\). Then the authors consider the Riesz transform of the Schrödinger operators on \(M\) given as \[ H=\Delta_M+\frac{V_0}{r^2}=-\partial_r^2-\frac{d-1}{r}\partial_r+\frac{1}{r^2}\Delta_Y+\frac{V_0}{r^2}. \] The main result states that the Riesz transform \[ T:=\nabla H^{-1/2} \] is bounded on \(L^p(M)\) for \(p\) in the interval \[ \left(\frac{d}{\min\{1+d/2+\sqrt{\mu_0},\,d\}},\,\frac{d}{\max\{d/2-\sqrt{\mu_0},\,0\}}\right). \] Moreover, if \(V_0\) is not identical zero, then the Riesz transform \(T\) is bounded on \(L^p(M)\) if and only if \(p\) is in the above interval. This interesting result has several corollaries. When \(V_0\equiv 0\), it recovers the result by \textit{H.-Q. Li} [J. Funct. Anal. 168, No. 1, 145--238 (1999; Zbl 0937.43004)] with a different proof. When \((M,g)\) is an asymptotically conic manifold, together with a previous result by Guillarmou and the first named author [\textit{C. Guillarmou} and \textit{A. Hassell}, Math. Ann. 341, No. 4, 859--896 (2008; Zbl 1141.58017)], it gives a characterization of the range of \(p\) for which the Riesz transform is bounded on \(L^p(M)\). When the potential \(V_0\equiv c\) where \(c>-\frac{(d-2)^2}{4}\) and \(c\neq 0\), then \(T=\nabla (\Delta_M+c/r^2)^{-1/2}\) is bounded on \(L^p(M)\) if and only if \(p\) is in the interval \[ \left(\frac{2d}{\min\{2+d+\sqrt{(d-2)^2+4c},\,2d\}},\,\frac{2d}{\max\{d-\sqrt{(d-2)^2+4c},\,0\}}\right). \]
