The author constructs a separable reflexive Banach space \(\mathfrak{X}_2\) with the following properties: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] The space \(\mathfrak{X}_2\) is complementably \(\ell_2\)-saturated (i.e., any of its closed infinite-dimensional subspaces contains a copy of \(\ell_2\) which is complemented in the whole space). \item[(2)] The space \(\mathfrak{X}_2\) does not embed into a space with an unconditional basis. \item[(3)] For any decomposition \(\mathfrak{X}_2=Y\oplus Z\) into a sum of closed infinite-dimensional subspaces, one of them embeds into an \(\ell_2\)-sum of finite-dimensional subspaces. Moreover, if one of them is isomorphic to \(\ell_2\), then the other one is isomorphic to \(\mathfrak{X}_2\). \item[(4)] Every bounded operator on \(\mathfrak{X}_2\) is of the form \(\lambda\cdot\mathrm{Id}+S\), with \(S\) satisfying the following: any subspace \(Y\subset \mathfrak{X}_2\) with \(S|_Y\) an isomorphism embeds into an \(\ell_2\)-sum of a sequence of finite-dimensional subspaces. \end{itemize}} The paper is a continuation of the work of \textit{S. A. Argyros} and the author [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 385, No. 2, 874--894 (2012; Zbl 1239.46006)], where a space \(\mathfrak{X}_0\) with similar properties with respect to \(c_0\) was built. These constructions require a combination of advanced techniques of building hereditarily indecomposable spaces. This framework allows in the class of spaces satisfying (2) above for combining a rather tight global geometric structure with saturation by a predetermined regular structure. The norm of the space \(\mathfrak{X}_0\) is given as usual by its norming set, closed under certain operations on precisely described sequences, and the space is defined as the completion of \(c_{00}\) under the defined norm. The author passes from \(\mathfrak{X}_0\) to \(\mathfrak{X}_2\) by closing additionally the norming set of \(\mathfrak{X}_0\) under taking \(\ell_2\)-convex combinations on some families of sequences of functionals. Showing that the resulting space has the desired decomposition properties requires in particular a deep theorem of \textit{E. Odell} and \textit{Th. Schlumprecht} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 354, No. 10, 4085--4108 (2002; Zbl 1023.46014)] who characterized, in terms of the properties of weakly null trees, when a space can be embedded into an \(\ell_2\)-sum of a sequence of finite-dimensional subspaces. Obvious modifications of the presented construction yield \(\ell_p\)-versions of the above space for any \(1<p<\infty\).
