The present paper is a survey of some recent results on resolutions of Hibi rings. Such rings are algebraic objects which arise naturally from combinatorics. They were introduced by \textit{T. Hibi} [Adv. Stud. Pure Math. 11, 93--109 (1987; Zbl 0654.13015)] and appear in various combinatorial and algebraic contexts. The author presents the construction of Hibi rings associated with finite distributive lattices as they were introduced by Hibi, explaining their structure of algebras with straightening laws. V. Ene focuses her attention also on to level and pseudo-Gorenstein Hibi rings. The notion of pseudo-Gorenstein algebra has been recently introduced in [\textit{V. Ene} et al., J. Algebra 431, 138--161 (2015; Zbl 1311.05215)]. A characterization of the Hibi rings which are pseudo-Gorenstein and necessary and sufficient conditions for levelness (of Hibi rings) are given. Finally, the regularity of the Hibi ring is considered.
