Consider the Schrödinger operator \(H=-\Delta+V\) on \(L^{2}({\mathbb R}^{d})\) for \(d\) even, where \(V\in L^\infty_{\mathrm{comp}}({\mathbb R}^d)\) (bounded function with compact support). Let \(\chi\in L^\infty_{\mathrm{comp}}({\mathbb R}^d)\) be a function satisfying \(\chi V = V\). In the even-dimensional case, the operator-valued function \(R_V:=\chi (H-\lambda^2)^{-1}\chi\), \(0<\arg\lambda<\pi\), has a meromorphic continuation to \(\Lambda\), the infinitely-sheeted Riemann surface of the logarithm. The poles of the continuation are called resonances. Denote by \(\Lambda_m\) the \(m^{th}\) open sheet consisting of \(z\in\Lambda\) with \(m\pi < \text{arg} z < (m + 1)\pi\). The authors investigate the number of poles \(n_{m,V}(r)\), counted with multiplicity, of the continuation of the truncated resolvent \(R_V\) on \(\Lambda_m\) of norm at most \(r > 0\). The main result of the paper under review is the following. Let \(d\) be even. Suppose \(V\in L^\infty_{\mathrm{comp}}({\mathbb R}^d)\) with \(V\) bounded below by \(\epsilon\chi_B\), where \(\epsilon > 0\) and \(\chi_B\) is the characteristic function of a nontrivial ball \(B\). Then, for any nonzero \(m \in {\mathbb Z}\), \[ \limsup\limits_{r\to\infty} {\log n_{m,\pm V}(r) \over \log r}=d. \]
