García de Galdeano's works on algebra (Q752674)

The paper is devoted to the study of Zeel Garcia de Galdeano's (1846- 1924) works on algebra, paying special attention to its influence on the assimilation of the new trends in mathematics by Spanish mathematical community. The author divides his paper into four sections with an appendix viz. (i) Introduction (ii) Tradado de algebra, (iii) Analysis of the critica Y sintesis de algebra, (iv) The bounds of modernity. The author then concludes that Garcia de Galdeano's increasing algebraic activity led to the elaboration of a work of synthesis with two special merits viz. (a) providing up-to-date information about the most important and interesting developments in algebra, (b) treating a particular branch of mathematics from a synthetic point of view by pointing out the rules underlying its mathematical constructions.
