This paper is intended to propose the necessary improvements to a paper on the flow of a dusty gas by \textit{N. Datta} and \textit{S. K. Mishra} [Acta Mech. 36, 71-78 (1980; Zbl 0425.76085)]. The author stresses the importance of particle phase compressibility and the hyperbolic nature of the particle momentum conservation equation and points out the basic differences between particulate and ordinary boundary layers. The author presents the corrected governing equations and the appropriate boundary conditions. It is interesting to note that the transformation introduced by Datta and Mishra in their paper, with a slight modification, reduces the problem of solving the corrected governing equations to a set of ordinary differential equations.
