According to [\textit{D. P. Sinha} and \textit{A. K. Karn}, Stud. Math. 150, No. 1, 17--33 (2002; Zbl 1008.46008)] a subset \(K\) of a Banach space \(E\) is relatively \(p\)-compact, \(1 \leq p \leq \infty\), if there exists a \(p\)-summable sequence \((x_n)\) in \(E\) such that \(K\) is contained in \(\{\sum \alpha_n x_n : (\alpha_n) \in B_{\ell_q}\}\) where \(1/p + 1/q = 1\). An operator \(T:E \to F\) between Banach spaces is \(p\)-compact if \(T(B_E)\) is relatively \(p\)-compact. The authors first show that a polynomial \(P \in \mathcal{P}(^mE; F)\) is \(p\)-compact if and only if its linearization is \(p\)-compact if and only if its Aron-Berner extension is \(p\)-compact. They then go on to study \(p\)-compact holomorphic mappings. For homogeneous polynomials, it is equivalent to be \(p\)-compact at some point \(x \in E\) and to be \(p\)-compact at every point \(x \in E\). A \(p\)-compact radius of convergence is introduced and used, among other things, to show that for every \(1\leq p < \infty\), there exists a holomorphic function \(f \in \mathcal{H}(\ell_1;\ell_p)\) such that every polynomial in the Taylor series expansion of \(f\) at \(0\) is \(p\)-compact, but \(f\) is not \(p\)-compact at \(0\). An example is also given, for every \(1 \leq p < \infty\), of a holomorphic function \(f \in \mathcal{H}(\ell_1;\ell_p)\) such that \(f\) is \(p\)-compact at \(0\) with \(p\)-compact radius of convergence \(1\), but \(f\) is not \(p\)-compact at the first coordinate vector \(e_1\). Finally the \(\epsilon\)-product of Schwartz is used to characterize the \(p\)-approximation property of a Banach space \(E\) in terms of \(p\)-compact homogeneous polynomials and in terms of \(p\)-compact holomorphic functions with range \(E\). The authors also show that \(p\)-compact operators fit into the framework of holomorphy types.
