If \(G\) is a topological group and \(\kappa>0\) is a cardinal then \(G\) is said to be almost \(\kappa\)-free if the set of \(\kappa\)-tuples \((g_i)_{i\in\kappa} \in G^{\kappa}\) which freely generate free subgroups of \(G\) is dense in \(G^{\kappa}\). Here \(G^{\kappa}\) is the Cartesian product of \(\kappa\) copies of \(G\), with product topology. The author proves that if \(G\) contains a free subgroup \(F\) of rank \(\kappa\) such that \(F\setminus\{1\}\) is dense then \(G\) is almost \(\kappa\)-free.
