It is an interesting and much-considered question of which finitely presented groups are Kähler groups, i.e., can be realized as fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds; in this context, the present paper centers around the question of which functions can be realized as Dehn functions of Kähler groups. Examples are known of Kähler groups with linear, quadratic and exponential Dehn functions. The main result of the present paper is a Kähler group with Dehn function bounded below by a cubic function \(n^3\) and above by \(n^6\); the example is a Kähler subgroup of a direct product of three surface groups constructed by \textit{A. Dimca} et al. [J. Reine Angew. Math. 629, 89--105 (2009; Zbl 1170.14017)]. As a consequence, a compact Kähler manifold having non-positive holomorphic bisectional curvature does not necessarily have a quadratic Dehn function (in contrast to the Riemannian setting where a closed Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature has a quadratic isoperimetric function).
