In ''The logic of paradox'' [ibid. 8, 219-241 (1979; Zbl 0402.03012)], the author argued that the logical paradoxes are true contradictions, and showed a number of the formal details involved in this idea. In this paper, the author reviews the proposal in the light of subsequent work in the area, and extends the argument for it. Areas covered in detail include: the construction of semantically closed, inconsistent theories; extended paradoxes; the philosophical significance of the semantic hierarchies of Kripke, Woodruff et al.; the significance of Gödel's first incompleteness theorem. In the course of the discussion, the paper comments on, and answers objections in, papers by \textit{C. Chihara} [reviewed above], \textit{B. Dowden} [reviewed below] and \textit{P. Woodruff} [ibid. 13, 213-232 (1984)].
