      Let B denote the numbers that can be expressed as a sum of two squares and let \(B_ 2(x,k,\ell)=| \{n\leq x\), \(n\in B\), \(n+1\in B\), \(n\equiv \ell(k)\}|\) the number of B-twins smaller than x in the residue class \(\ell mod k\). In 1964 \textit{G. J. Rieger} [Indagationes Math. 27, 208-220 (1965; Zbl 0141.043)] proved the upper bound \(B_ 2(x,1,1)\ll x/\log x.\) \textit{J. K. Kelley} (Dissertation, Nottingham 1978) extended this to small intervals and showed \[ B_ 2(x,1,1)-B_ 2(x-x^{\theta},1,1)\ll x^{\theta}/\log x\quad for\quad \theta>\frac{1}{2}. \] The result of this paper is the following: Let \((k,\ell(\ell +1))=1\), 1\(\leq k\leq(\log x)^ A\), \(A>0\), then there exists a constant c, independent of k, such that for \(\theta>75/307\) and for x large enough: \[ B_ 2(x,k,\ell)-B_ 2(x-x^{\theta},k,\ell)\leq c/k\prod_{p\equiv 3(4), p| k}\frac{p}{p-2}\frac{x^{\theta}}{\log x}. \]
