The author gives some properties of a finite group that follow from its having a cyclic Sylow p-subgroup and a star for the tree of \(B_ 0(p)\). Of course G satisfies these hypotheses if and only if \(\bar G=G/O_{p'}(G)\) does, so the results are expressed in terms of \(\bar G\). Assume the hypotheses. Then every involution in G inverts some Sylow p- subgroup of G. If the tree for \(B_ 0(p)\) has an odd number of edges G is p-solvable. If it has an even number of edges and \(| C_{\bar G}(\bar P)|\) is odd then G has a unique class of involutions. If \(| P| >7\) then \(B_ 0(p)\) has no irreducible character \(\chi\) with \(\chi (1)=p^ a-4\) or \(2p^ a-4\). If the star is a cross with its distinct five nodes in some order being the center of the star, the exceptional node, the principal character, a character of degree \(1+p^ a\), and its complex conjugate then \(p=13\) and \(\bar G=Sz(8)\).
