There are well known isomorphisms among the four simple groups \(PSU_ 4(2)\), \(PSp_ 4(3)\), \(O_ 5(3)\), and \(O^-_ 6(2)\) and these simple groups have interesting geometric properties. In the paper under review the author studies the primitive permutation representations over GF(2) of these groups. The simple group G of order \(25920=2^ 6\cdot 3^ 4\cdot 5\) was first defined as a group of incidence preserving permutations of the 27 lines on a general cubic surface in projective 3- space. Considering the automorphism groups of certain lattices, the author shows that the group G is isomorphic to each of \(O^-_ 6(2)\), \(PSU_ 4(2)\), \(PSp_ 4(3)\), and \(O_ 5(3)\). The group G has five conjugacy classes of maximal subgroups, the indices of which are 27, 36, 40, 40 and 45. Thus G has five primitive permutation representations. These permutation representations are described in terms of the actions of G on various sets of geometric objects. Some relations of these actions are also presented. The elements of each set on which G acts generate a permutation module over GF(2). The author examines the five GF(2)-modules of dimensions 27, 36, 40, 40, and 45 and determines the dimensions and constituents of all of the submodules. The calculations of the modules are done by using a computer and no proofs are provided.
