An eigenvalue problem arising in a patch formation model (Q802286)

The following eigenvalue problem \((\sin \theta f')'+\lambda \sin \theta f=0,\) \(0<\theta <\theta_ 0<\pi\), f(0) bounded, \(f(\theta_ 0)=0\) is solved. The problem is transformed and a separation of the eigenvalues is obtained by simple calculations. The exact eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are obtained by solving the algebraic equation given by the corresponding regular Frobenius series solution. Numerical examples for different \(\theta_ 0\) are given and a comparison of the results obtained by various methods is performed.
