The author studies the fourth order periodic boundary value problem \(- d^ 4u/dx^ 4+f(u(x))u'(x)+g(x,u(x))=e(x)\), \(x\in [0,2\pi]\), \(u(0)- u(2\pi)=u'(0)-u'(2\pi)=u''(0)-u''(2\pi)=u'''(0)-u'''(2\pi)=0\), where f:\({\mathbb{R}}\to {\mathbb{R}}\) is continuous, g:[0,2\(\pi\) ]\(\times {\mathbb{R}}\to {\mathbb{R}}\) satisfies Carathéodory's conditions, \(e\in L^ 1[0,2\pi]\). He proves three existence theorems for resonance and nonresonance cases. The proofs are based on the coincidence degree theory and are motivated by the paper of \textit{C. P. Gupta} and \textit{J. Mawhin} [Z. Anal. Anwend. 3, 33-42 (1984; Zbl 0546.34031)]. The obtained results extend the earlier ones of the author [Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. 11, No.2, 275-284 (1988; Zbl 0649.34028)].
