The finite section method for Toeplitz operators consists in approximately solving the equation \(P(a\phi)=f\) by looking for a polynomial \(\phi_ n\) of degree n such that the first \(n+1\) Taylor coefficients of \(P(a\phi_ n)\) and f coincide. While the finite section method for Toeplitz operators on Hardy spaces has been studied thoroughly for a long time, analogous questions for Bergman space Toeplitz operators have not yet been considered. The present paper takes up the latter problem and contains a criterion for the applicability of the finite section method to Toeplitz operators with continuous matrix-valued symbols on the Bergman space of the polydisk.
