The asymptotic stability in the sense of Lyapunov of the solution of a linear neutral difference-differential equation \[ L[X]:=[(D-a)(D-\bar a)]^ nX(t)+B\cdot [(D-b)(B-\bar b)]^ nX(t-T)=u(t), \] where \(D:=d/dt\), \(n\in {\mathbb{N}}\), is investigated. As usual, the problem is reduced to the investigation of the characteristic function H(z) for \(L(X)=0\). Some necessary and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of the trivial solution of \(L(X)=0\) are given. Also, a delay- independent stable manifold for H(z) is explicitly determined.
