On a compact and connected Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary certain asymptotic invariants for an operator of Dirac type are defined with the help of an auxiliary smooth endomorphism. The stability results shown in the paper relate heat equation invariants and eta invariants and can be used to show for example the regularity of the eta function.
