The ``remarkable AM-spaces'' \(CD_w (X)\) and \(CD_0 (X)\) were introduced by \textit{Y.~A.\ Abramovich} and \textit{A.~W.\ Wickstead} [J.\ Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 180, No.~2, 398--411 (1993; Zbl 0792.46004)] for a quasi-Stonean space \(X\) without isolated points. For a nonempty set \(X\), \(\ell_w^\infty (X)\) is the space of real valued bounded functions on \(X\) with countable support and \(c_0 (X)\) is the space of real valued bounded functions \(f\) on \(X\) such that \(\{x \in X: | f (x) | > \varepsilon \}\) is finite for each \(\varepsilon > 0\). Then \(CD_0 (X) = C (X) \oplus c_0 (X)\) and \(CD_w (X) = C (X) \oplus \ell_w^\infty (X)\). The authors first note that the AM-space \(CD_w (X)\) can be generalized to arbitrary topological spaces \(X\) without any assumption on compactness or on the existence of isolated points. It is well-known that if \(E\) is a unital AM-space, then there exists a unique (up to homeomorphism) compact Hausdorff space \(X\) such that \(E\) and \(C (X)\) are isometrically Riesz isomorphic. \(X\) is the Kakutani-Krein space of \(E\). The authors constract a completely regular Hausdorff space \(A_w (X)\) on \(X \times \{0,1\}\) such that \(CD_w (X)\) and \(C^b (A_w (X))\) are isometrically Riesz isomorphic spaces. The Stone-Čech compactification \(\beta A_w (X)\) of \(A_w (X)\) is the Kakutani--Krein space of \(CD_w (X)\). For a topological space \(X\), the topology on \(X \times \{0,1\}\) is generated by \(\{H \times \{1\} : H \subset X\} \cup \{U \times \{0,1\} - M \times \{1\} : U\) open, \(M\) countable\(\}\). The resulting topological space on \(X \times \{0,1\}\) is denoted by \(A_w (X)\). The space \(A_w (X)\) has a number of interesting topological properties. Theorem. Let \(X\) be a completely regular Lindelöf Hausdorff space. Then \(\beta A_w (X)\) is the Kakutani-Krein space of \(CD_w (X)\). The authors also consider the vector-valued version of \(CD_w (X)\) spaces, they give some useful order properties of \(CD_w (X, E)\) spaces where \(E\) is a Banach lattice, and they identify the center of \(CD_w (X, E)\). Isometries of \(CD_w (X)\) are studied and characterized. The paper also contains an answer to a conjecture posed by Abramovich and Wickstead.
