The aim of the paper is to find an analogue of the Euclidean normal curvature of hypersurfaces \(M\) in the equiaffine differential geometry with Blaschke's affine normal vector \(A\). For this purpose the author considers the plane passing a point \(p\in M\) which is spanned by \(A\) and the direction vector \(v\in T_p M\). He introduces the affine distance function \(\Delta: M\to\mathbb{R}\) with respect to a point \(x\in\mathbb{R}^{n+1}\) whose singularities allow to define an affine normal curvature \(\mu_p(v)\). -- Some properties are proved connecting it with affine principal directions, affine umbilics and affine mean curvature.
