The paper develops cohomology theories for strongly homotopy algebras, namely for \(A_\infty\)-, \(C_\infty\)- and \(L_\infty\)-algebras (i.e.\ associative, commutative and Lie versions respectively). The authors use ideas of noncommutative geometry, formal algebras and operads (although the latter are not mentioned explicitly in the main text). The paper begins by setting up the framework of noncommuatative differential geometry, in particular describing the De Rham complexes in each case. Then relationships between associative, commutative and Lie geometries are studied. Elements of the theory of \(A_\infty\)-, \(C_\infty\)- and \(L_\infty\)-algebras are presented and it is proven that any \(C_\infty\)-algebra is weakly equivalent to a minimal one. Next the cohomology of infinity algebras is studied. First Hochschild, Harrison and Chevalley-Eilenberg theories are analysed for associative, commutative and Lie infinity algebras respectively, then the authors describe cyclic cohomology theories. The Hodge decomposition for Hochschild and cyclic cohomology (both in the \(C_\infty\)-algebra case) is constructed. The paper is supplemented with an appendix devoted to formal algebras.
