Graded relations are a standard tool in many-valued logic and fuzzy set theory. That their properties migth also appear in a graded form became a serious topic only in the 1990s. The authors of this paper offer a systematic treatment of the basic facts of relation theory, with their main focus on preordering and equivalence relations. The formal background is the fuzzy class theory as conceived by \textit{L. Běhounek} and \textit{P. Cintula} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 154, No.~1, 34--55 (2005; Zbl 1086.03043)], and developed within the framework of the mathematical fuzzy logic \(\text{MTL}_{\triangle}\). The paper shows that this is a natural generalization: almost all basic facts of relation theory can be genaralized in an essentially canonical way.
