The paper under review contains a characterisation of simplicity and primality of the crossed product of a \(C^*\)-algebra \(B\) by an action of a compact quantum group \(\mathbb{G}:=(A, \Delta)\). It is shown that the crossed product as above is simple (respectively, prime) if each spectral subspace of \(B\) corresponding to an irreducible corepresentation of \(\mathbb{G}\) is nonempty and all fixed-point spaces of certain natural actions of \(\mathbb{G}\) on the matrix algebras over \(B\), again corresponding to elements of \(^{\text{Irr}}(\mathbb{G})\), are simple (respectively, prime). This generalises the earlier work of \textit{C.\,Peligrad} for compact group actions [J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 76, No.\,1, 126--139 (1988; Zbl 0644.46049)] and of \textit{C.\,Peligrad} and \textit{W.\,Szymański} for actions of finite-dimensional Hopf \(^*\)-algebras [Math.\ Scand.\ 75, No.\,2, 217--239 (1994; Zbl 0854.46054)].
