This paper considers a second order differential equation with attractive singularity (the so-called Lazer-Solimini equation) as a nonlinear impact oscillator and analyzes the existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions. The impacts have finite energy as a result of a weak force condition. The main result improves a previous one by \textit{D. Qian} and the reviewer [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 134, No. 1, 201-213 (2004; Zbl 1062.34047)]. The technique of proof combines an approximation approach with phase-plane analysis.
