Let \(K_m\) be the mirror image of a planar convex body \(K\) in a straight line \(m\). Then \(K^{\ast}_m=conv(K\cup K_m)\) is the smallest (by inclusion) convex body whose axis of symmetry is \(m\) and which contains \(K\). The paper under review deals with the ration \(axs(K)\) of the area of \(K\) to the minimum area of \(K^{\ast}_m\). The main problem is to estimate from below \(axs(K)\) for the family of all convex bodies \(K\). The authors present the solutions of this problem for the class of triangles. In particular, \(axs(T)>\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{2}\) for every triangle \(T\), and this inequality cannot be improved in general.
